Water

While people in the Western world are popping by their local bar for a bottle of water from places all over the world, others are struggling to get clean water for their daily needs to their parts of the world.

River Thames was once known as a highly polluted river. Through centuries of industrial waste, pesticides and sewage it has taken years to make the river water cleaner. Drinking water is again taken from the river to provide water to Londoners.

Huge amounts of clean water is being polluted and the cleaning process is exstensive and expensive. The sacred river Ganges is so polluted that taking a dip in the river means taking various bacteria with you home. In some areas, using the water from Ganges has led to cancer.

The water of the Euphrates and Tigris, rivers that enabled the Mesopotamia to prosper, were led into wide canals by Saddam Hussein to make the oil industry prosper instead. Flushing the water out to sea left a desert behind. Recent conservation work recreating some of the habitats of the Euphrates and the Tigris has led to the return of various birds and fish.

While attempts are made to make and keep the River Thames clean, there is still pollution of the water and the environment of the river wildlife. Among them is sound pollution.
